Healthy plants installed in the correct location is the best way to ensure sustainable gardens. This is why Strathmore employs full-time horticulturalists in charge of plant care and maintenance.

New garden designs and plant replacements are done prioritizing hearty and acclimatized plants. We are very conscious of the harsh conditions to which Ericsson’s plant life will be subjected (drought and exposure to salt and harsh winds) and therefore our plant recommendations have been done in consequence.

 

Garden waste will be composted off -site but there will be a possibility of considering on-site composting in the future.

 

Organic composted chicken manure fertilizer is used wherever possible.

 

Mulches are materials placed over the soil surface to maintain moisture and improve soil conditions.

 

Mulching is one of the most beneficial practices for the health of perennial and shrub gardens. Mulch will reduce water loss from the soil, minimize weed competition, and improve soil structure.

 

Strathmore uses a custom-made, fire-resistant, wood chip mulch. Its dark brown colour provides an attractive, well-groomed appearance to garden beds.

 

Lawns and plants which are kept in optimal health are the most resistant to pests. Therefore Strathmore takes a proactive approach to dealing with pests.

 

Irrigation will be closely monitored. The irrigation schedule will be based on the type of soil and how quickly the water infiltrates into the soil. Watering for too long results in water run-off and wasted water. Plant roots will not receive the benefits of the water and water will be wasted.
