In Full Bloom: Strathmore Celebrates Another Successful Canadian Tulip Festival

“Here are the tulips, budded and full-blown, their swoops and dips, their gloss and poses, the satin of their darks.” ― Margaret Atwood, Dearly

As the final petals fall and Ottawa’s iconic tulip beds begin their seasonal transition, Strathmore is proud to look back on another incredible year supporting the Canadian Tulip Festival. With over 300,000 tulips planted, more than 120 unique varieties, and thousands of visitors walking the paths of Commissioners Park and the Rideau Canal Corridor, this year’s festival was another masterclass in large-scale, high-impact landscaping.

As part of our longstanding mandate with the National Capital Commission (NCC), Strathmore is trusted to transform these spaces each spring, not just for beauty, but for the experience of visitors and residents alike. From the moment the first bulb is planted to the final clean-up, our work is a carefully choreographed effort involving 25+ professionals, 1,400+ labour hours, and a commitment to both excellence and sustainability.

But what happens behind the scenes at the Canadian Tulip Festival isn’t just a story about public celebration but a potential model for commercial success. Given our experience with the Canadian Tulip Festival and the challenges currently facing commercial property managers, we’ve compiled many key takeaways from this work into a downloadable insight report.

From Tulip to Tenants: How Festival-Level Landscaping Can Help Commercial Properties Thrive

Discover how the same principles that wow festival-goers, such as strategic planting, seasonal programming, environmental leadership, and seamless coordination can drive value for your retail, office, or mixed-use property.

At Strathmore, we believe that public-facing landscapes are more than ornamental. They’re operational assets and strategic investments that invite engagement and wellbeing for tenants. The Tulip Festival proves what’s possible when landscaping is treated as an experience, not an afterthought.

And with the closing of the Canadian Tulip Festival, we’re proud that our work remains grounded in the Strathmore Standard:

  • Trusted Service that ensures every element is coordinated, in place and on time

  • Excellent Work that meets the highest visual and technical standards

  • Dynamic Partnership that supports sustainability, including the use of zero-emission equipment

  • Responsible Employment through our professional, empowered teams that brought 300,000 pops of colour to Canada’s capital.

As the tulips fade and the perennials take over, we’re filled with pride in what we planted, and in what we continue to grow: trusted relationships, elevated expectations, and inspired public spaces.

Tulips mark the end of the grey, bleak winter. That’s why we like to say that "Spring starts with Strathmore"!
